Religious Education

At Sacred Heart, Religious Education is central to our identity and daily life. Grounded in the Religious Education Curriculum Framework (2018), our program nurtures each child’s faith, encourages deep thinking, and connects Gospel values with real-life experiences.

We support students to grow in their understanding of:

  • Scripture, prayer, and Catholic tradition
  • Sacraments and the liturgical year
  • Catholic Social Teaching and social justice
  • Their own faith and spiritual journey

We embrace recontextualisation, presenting Catholic faith in dialogue with today’s world. Students are encouraged to engage respectfully, think critically, and connect faith to their lives in a meaningful way.

Our RE program includes:

  • Whole-school and class liturgies
  • Sacramental preparation (Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation)
  • Celebrating major Church seasons and feast days

As a Catholic school, we are committed to living out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, such as dignity of the human person, care for our common home, and solidarity with others. These values are woven through our learning, relationships, and actions, helping students to develop empathy, compassion, and a sense of justice.

Examples of Catholic Social Teaching in action at our school include:

  • Fundraising for Project Compassion and St Vincent de Paul
  • Visiting Mercy Fernhill Aged Care
  • Supporting our parish partnership with Remexio, East Timor
  • Environmental stewardship through recycling, gardening, and sustainability practices
  • Promoting kindness and inclusion through buddy programs and wellbeing initiatives

Religious Education at Sacred Heart is enriched by our partnership with the parish and lived out in the words and actions of our school community.
