Music & Performing Arts
Our vibrant Music and Performing Arts program immerses students from Prep to Year 6 in a dynamic blend of music, drama and dance. Through carefully sequenced lessons, students explore core musical elements such as rhythm, pitch, melody and form. They learn to identify and create sounds using terminology like ta, ti-ti, tika-tika, mi, so and la, while engaging with concepts like beat, phrasing, tempo and dynamics.
Using picture storybooks, musical games and listening activities, students analyse and appreciate a range of art music. Each year level builds on the last, developing both technical and creative skills across the performing arts.
A highlight of the program is the bi-annual musical production, where all students actively participate in singing, acting, dancing and movement – bringing their learning to life on stage in a joyful celebration of the arts.
Italian
Our Italian program provides students from Foundation to Year 6 with rich opportunities to learn and use the language in authentic and meaningful ways. The program focuses on building confidence in interpersonal communication, with students progressively developing their skills in speaking, listening, and understanding Italian.
From the early years, students are introduced to greetings, polite expressions, and classroom instructions through songs, games, routines, and visual supports. As they move through the levels, students engage in structured dialogues, ask and answer questions about themselves, express their feelings and preferences, and learn how language varies in formal and informal contexts.
In addition to promoting intercultural understanding, language learning has been shown to support cognitive development, including memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Our program offers opportunities to extend students through challenging tasks, creative expression, and the exploration of grammatical and cultural nuances, helping them become confident and flexible learners.
Through interactive activities, cultural exploration, and daily use of Italian, students grow in their ability to use the language respectfully and purposefully, laying strong foundations for future language learning.
