Our Commitment to student wellbeing

Student Wellbeing

At Sacred Heart, we recognise that student wellbeing and student learning outcomes are intricately linked, and we understand the importance of fostering programs that enhance the development of the social and emotional development of our students. Our whole-school approach to wellbeing is proactive, inclusive, and evidence-informed.

In determining the priorities for student wellbeing at Sacred Heart School, staff, parents, and students agree that we are committed to:

  • Welcoming all members of our school community
  • Recognising the uniqueness and dignity of each person
  • Supporting parents in their role as the first educators of their children
  • Providing a supportive, caring, and safe environment for all members of our school community

Respectful Relationships

As a leading school for the Department of Education’s Respectful Relationships program, we recognise that our school is more than just a place for young people to learn; it is a place where all students and staff deserve to feel respected, safe, and valued.

The Respectful Relationships program supports schools and early childhood settings to promote and model respect, positive attitudes, and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience, and confidence. It is all about embedding a culture of respect and equality across the entire school community. Berry Street Education Model

At Sacred Heart, we are proud to implement the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) a practical, evidence-based approach to teaching and learning that supports student wellbeing, engagement, and academic achievement. BSEM is designed to help teachers meet the needs of all learners, particularly those with complex or unmet learning needs. It promotes self-regulation, resilience, and positive relationships in the classroom, creating safe and supportive learning environments where every student can thrive. Working together, the model helps us build predictability and consistency across all classrooms, supporting every student to feel safe, connected, and ready to learn.

Buddy Program

Our Buddy Program plays a vital role in supporting the social and emotional development of our students. Each year, our new Prep students are paired with a Year 5 buddy to help them transition smoothly into school life. These buddies provide friendship, guidance, and a welcoming presence, ensuring that Prep students feel safe, supported, and connected from the very first day. In turn, our older students grow in responsibility, empathy, and leadership skills, as they take on a mentoring role and create lasting connections with their younger peers.

Calm Club at Sacred Heart

At Sacred Heart, we understand that some students may benefit from a quieter space during lunch breaks. Offered every lunchtime, our Calm Club provides a peaceful alternative to the playground, perfect for those who need a moment to recharge, reset, or simply enjoy some calm, creative time.

Students of all ages are welcome to join in a range of relaxing activities such as drawing, coding, chess, reading, Lego, puzzles, and mindfulness colouring. The offerings within Calm Club may change throughout the year based on student and teacher interests, ensuring there’s always something engaging and enjoyable for everyone to build friendships and collaborate with others.
